Here is an overview over the most recent releases of our Find and Replace add-in for Microsoft Access. It also includes download links if for any reason you want to download a version other than the currently recommend version from the product page.
Version 1.2.04 Release date 2023-01-22
Version 1.2.04 is the recommended release of Find and Replace.
Bug fix: Search terms were not found in in very long text values in form/report Recordsource or Controlsources.
Feature/Bug fix: Some properties in linked tables in front end applications could not be replaced, even if they are updatable in Access (e.g., Order By).
Bug fix: With certain combinations of display resolution and display scaling (“Make text and other items on the desktop smaller and larger.”) there was a Null References Exception when trying to open the Custom Settings dialog.
Feature/Bug fix: The Custom Settings dialog is now resizable and will adjust itself to very small screen sizes to allow access to all UI controls.
Feature: Improved usability of Find and Replace for using the keyboard only.
Feature: Find and Replace now allows to search for a single blank.
(Some of the above bug fixes were already included in the intermediary hot fix releases v1.2.1, v1.2.2, and v.1.2.3)
This version includes bug fixes only. See the list below for the changes in detail.
Bug fix: When a linked table was linked with user name and password and the “Save Password” option enabled, Find and Replace was unable to find the linked table.
Version 1.1.02 is the recommended release of Find and Replace.
This version includes bug fixes only. See the list below for the changes in detail.
Bug fix:Error message “COM object that has been separated from its underlying RCW cannot be used.” when searching in modules in a Access database on a mapped network share.
Bug fix: When replacing a term in the SQL text of a query located immediately next to a line break, the first character of the line break (CR+LF) was removed. If you then replaced the new term in the same location the line break would be completely removed, potentially causing syntax errors in the query.
Bug fix/Feature: Find and Replace now also searches in the Connect, SubdatasheetName, LinkChildFields, LinkMasterFields properties of tables.
Version 1.1.01 Release date 2020-09-17 / 2020-11-28
This version was release as preview of version 1.1 in September 2020. As of 2020-11-28 we are not aware of any significant bug in this release and recommend it for general use.
This version includes a few bug fixes and some great new features. See the list below for the changes in detail.
Bug fix: Find and Replace now also searches in the names of modules and macros.
Bug fix: Quoted terms in VBA code are now also found by the accelerated search.
Bug fix: Search terms in Conditional Formatting expressions are now also found by the accelerated search.
Feature: You can now clear the list of previous searches.
Feature: “Look in: Active Objects” previously searched only in the top level open objects in Access. This has been enhanced to now also search through all sub forms and sub reports of the currently open objects.
Feature: The Find and Replace result list can now be filtered with additional filter types (“Begins with…”, “Ends with..” and Regular Expressions).
Feature: The result list now displays the number of originally found matches as well as the number of filtered results.
Feature: You can now just hit the the [Enter] key in the search box to start searching.
Feature: If you started searching with “Find Next” you can now escalate your search to “Find All” in the result dialog.
Feature: You can now start by searching for a term, then filter the result list to include only a subset of the original results, and then replace your search term in those filtered results.
I published an infomercial video on the 1.1 update of our Find and Replace for Microsoft Access tool. This is an opportunity to see some of the cool new features in action without even downloading the free trial version.
Version 1.0.17 Release date 2020-04-08
New update release for general availability.
Bug fix: While or after Find and Replace was used in a open database, Compact&Repair for that database failed with an error message (“You attempted to open a database that is already opened…”). You had to close the database to use Compact&Repair. This issue is fixed and you can use Compact&Repair without error message.
Bug fix: Parenthesis (round brackets) were not recognized as word separators when using the “Match whole word”-option.
Bug fix: Using the “Goto Value” command from the result list would lead to multiple selections if used multiple times for results in the same form/report.
Feature: Find (and Replace) in linked Access tables. Find and Replace will now also find terms in the properties of linked Access tables. It can also replace in linked table properties, but this has to be explicitly enabled the settings dialog to prevent an unexpected change in behavior.
Note: This is a hotfix release. This version is not fully
tested yet and should be downloaded only if you are affected by one of the
issues listed below.
Bug fix – When closing Access
while a Find and Replace dialog is open, the msaccess.exe process might hang in
the background and the .laccdb lock file is not deleted.
Bug fix – Fixed spelling mistakes
in English UI texts.
Improvement – Trial version expiry

I’ve been using Find & Replace very happily for over 2 years now. It’s an essential tool and I adore it.
Sadly, the [AccDevTools] tab has recently disappeared. I have run the install again for good measure, to no avail.
I will tell you that I’ve recently inherited an old Access database that had begun implementing custom ribbons, and that included XML to hide some of the default tabs. Given that the AccDevTools tab isn’t specifically referenced, this seems unlikely to be the culprit, but I’m not that experienced with custom ribbon, so I thought it should be mentioned.
Can you please help me with some troubleshooting steps?
Also, I’m on the board of directors of DAAUG (Denver Area Access User Group), and recall your presentation for us last year, on Access performance (mainly from the Access SQL side). It was a spectacularly popular presentation, and we would be very enthusiastic about a follow-up on Access performance against SQL Server.
Dawn, thank you very much for the positive feedback!
If you had Find and Replace installed and working before, I suggest you first check in “Options” – “Add-ins” if Find and Replace (listed there as “AccDevTools.AddIn”) was disabled and you can re-enable it when selecting “Manage: COM Add-ins” + “Go…” in that dialog and simply checking it in the list.
If that doesn’t help, please check our blog post: https://accessdevtools.com/blog/microsoft-office-com-add-in-not-loading/
There are couple of other problems and solutions described.
